Featured Project: A Bold New Broadcast Home – Our Partnership with CHCH TV

Let’s look back on one of our greatest hits. In 2022, we were thrilled to partner with
CHCH TV, Canada’s longest-running independent television station, on a project that
brought together innovation, creativity, and a shared commitment to the future of
broadcasting.

CHCH TV’s goal was clear: build a bright, modern studio that reflected their energy,
enthusiasm, and forward-thinking approach to media. Together, we brought that vision to life with a space that is as dynamic as the people who work in it.

About the Project:

For 67 years, CHCH operated from their original location in downtown Hamilton. This
project marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter, as the station moved into a
purpose-built facility on Innovation Drive—a growing suburban area that now positions CHCH for long-term growth and opportunity.

We completed a full renovation of a two-storey, 23,000 square foot office space. In
addition, we built an 8,600 square foot expansion to accommodate CHCH’s evolving
needs. This included:

• 7,000 square feet of brand-new broadcasting facilities
• A fully equipped, state-of-the-art studio
• An expanded and collaborative newsroom
• A dedicated truck maintenance area for mobile reporting vehicles

From the beginning, the design approach centred on openness, energy, and function.
The interior layout features open-concept spaces designed to inspire creativity and
collaboration. Every detail—from durable material choices to the advanced broadcasting infrastructure—was selected with performance and longevity in mind.
A bold colour palette and vibrant lighting helped capture the essence of the CHCH
brand, giving the space a fresh and modern feel that supports both form and function.

A Partnership Built on Trust

This project was a true collaboration between the Abcott Construction and CHCH TV
teams. A shared vision and strong communication allowed us to move efficiently from concept to completion. The result is a space that not only meets CHCH’s technical
requirements but also celebrates the energy and identity that define their brand.

CHCH is now broadcasting from their new home in a space designed to support their
growth while honouring their rich legacy. We are proud to have played a part in this
transformation and are excited to see how CHCH continues to grow and evolve in their new environment.
